Special Detective Chau’s eighteenth birthday is celebrated at the police station, but comes to a quick and abrupt end when a letter to Chau makes it clear that a sixth murder investigation is imminent.
Even Chau is threatened again, and it is the beginning of one of the most complex cases that the detectives of the Highfields police force have ever had to deal with. The threat of multiple murders puts the pressure on and until the very end it is uncertain what the motive for these crimes is. A real number one suspect is a long time coming. In the end, nothing turns out to be what it initially seemed. Then of course there is always Meow, Chau’s dog, who will have a very special input in this investigation. Chau’s father also shows that Chau did not get her detective skills from a stranger.
The village of Highfields and its residents feel the pressure, but also show their solidarity and help the group of detectives where they can, which unfortunately also brings dangerous moments with the drama of one of the notables of the village as the low point.
The end of the investigation comes suddenly, and in a way as bizarre as many events during the entire investigation.
